FROM OCEAN PLASTIC TO FURNITURE HANDLES
In the heart of West Jutland, a small company with a big mission is making waves: PLASTIX. Together, we’ve created something truly special – OceanIX, a collection of furniture handles made from minimum 90% recycled ocean plastic. By transforming discarded fishing nets and ropes from the maritime industry into a unique OceanIX plastic granulate, we give new life to materials that would otherwise pollute our oceans. The collection features three distinctive handles – Plato, Square, and Volumi – each merging aesthetics and environmental responsibility in a design rooted in circular thinking.
OCEAN WASTE - OUR RAW MATERIAL
Our oceans are facing an escalating crisis of plastic waste, including discarded nets, trawls, and other debris. Up to 8 million tonnes of plastic end up in the ocean every year – that’s 20 tonnes every minute. A significant portion stems from abandoned fishing gear and inadequate waste management. This immense volume of pollution poses a serious threat to marine ecosystems, wildlife, and even our food chain.
This is where OceanIX makes a difference. Through a meticulous and advanced process, PLASTIX transforms collected plastic waste into a new raw material: OceanIX granulate. We use this granulate in our Danish factory to mould and manufacture handles with a story that matters.
DESIGN WITH PURPOSE
OceanIX isn’t just about recycling plastic – it’s about rethinking the entire process behind the products we surround ourselves with. Manufactured in Denmark, close to our roots, we maintain complete control over every step – from moulding and finishing to quality inspection. This not only ensures consistent, high quality, but also reduces CO₂ emissions from transport. By reusing plastic from the maritime industry, we help reduce ocean pollution and cut down on the need for new plastic production, which is often linked to oil extraction and a heavy climate footprint. OceanIX is proof that environmental responsibility and aesthetic value can go hand in hand.
